San Gabriel River Fishing

I mainly fish the San Gabriel River from the confluence of the North and South San Gabriel in Georgetown and down for several miles. Before I started my journey as a fishing guide, the San Gabriel always intrigued me. My old guiding partner, Johnny Quiroz, would drive over this river, and I would often tell him that I believed big fish lurked in its waters. When we finally began exploring this river, we discovered it was extremely shallow for long stretches but featured beautiful deep pools filled with carp, sunfish, and some smallmouth bass (I will have to dig out pictures to ensure I'm not lying to y'all), along with Guadalupe Bass and some really nice largemouth bass. This is the river where I caught my first several carp and also the location of my largest bass caught on a fly rod. It was on this river that my fly fishing skills came together, instilling in me the confidence to become a guide and start The Guides of Texas. I still guide clients here at times, successfully putting them on some impressive bass and carp in the great Texas rivers.
